A reason (maybe the only reason) I could see the SEC "persuade"

its members to agree to add Texas is because the SEC would have a monopoly over the state of Texas (especially if it added Oklahoma too). Given the size of Texas, it would be interesting to see which interest would trump when push came to shove; SEC's desire to have a monopoly on the state of Texas and even the region vs. Texas A&M's desire to be the only SEC school in the state of Texas.
